FAQs
Can you tell me about your sourcing of the carrier oils and essential oils you use?
We only use organic carrier oils sourced from a vendor who is proudly organic and cruelty-free. Our essential oils are sourced from a separate vendor, and all are certified organic, save Palo Santo, which is wild harvested. Technically it cannot be certified organic since it isn't professionally farmed. It was critical to us that we got this right.
Are the products made small batch or do you have a manufacturer?
Natural Kind is only made in small batches in Charlotte, NC. This ensured a degree of quality control that you just can't get with mass produced or manufactured products. Why do you only make small batches?
When you work with natural, plant-derived ingredients, they’re always a little different. One order of organic essential oils might not smell like the last order because they were made with plants in different soil and received a different amount of sunlight and water. But that’s the beauty of organic ingredients, they change with the season and the year. This makes our job harder because when we mix and batch, we might have to add a little more sweet orange or not so much palo santo. In short, the consistency of the product is up to us, not the plants. And the only way to ensure quality and consistency is to produce in small batches. The more you know
Who would you say your oils are perfect for?
Natural Kind oils are for all skin types. Our base is made of argan, squalane, and jojoba, and together they: moisturize and soften (argan), hydrate (squalane), and heal skin (jojoba). The other neat thing is that squalane works with your skin to regulate oil production so it's suited for folks with oily skin.
All of these oils are non-comedogenic, so they will not clog your pores, and the essential oils are all non-phototoxic, meaning you can confidently wear them in the sun without risk of harm to your skin. Also, NK is lightweight so you can wear it all year round without feeling greasy. Perfect for any season, but especially important information to have for those in warmer climates or those entering warm-weather seasons.
Do you use plastic in your packaging?
Unfortunately, yes. But as we grow and learn, we are making every effort to use less plastic (right now only our bottle caps and pumps are plastic), but we're looking into plastic alternatives. As a side note, we're also working on sourcing more ingredients from vendors who support regenerative farming practices.
As we get more questions, we'll be answering them here.
